A critical part of your child's progress in reading is home support. Children who are read to at home and children who practice reading with a parent on a daily basis, will progress further than children who do not. You will find a list of high frequency words below. Please print the words off and work with five to six words per week until your child can read the words without sounding them out. This will help your child strengthen his/her reading skills. Start with the pre-primer words before moving onto the primer word list and then finally to the grade one list. By the end of the school year, your child is expected to know all of these words by sight (without sounding out).
